Prem Chand Sharma began his career in 1965 at the Rehabilitation Research Centre of Sawai Man Singh Hospital Medical College, Jaipur, under the guidance of Dr. P. K. Sethi. Here, he contributed significantly to the innovation of the Jaipur Foot and various joint designs, particularly focusing on creating joints that were not available at the time. His work in Jaipur Limb and Poliomyelitis innovation was notable.
In 1990, Sharma collaborated with Dr. S. C. Kasliwal at a UNICEF-organized program in Nicaragua, where he trained local professionals and established a workshop. He repeated this initiative in Indonesia in 1991 and 1992, providing training and setting up workshops.
Sharma's efforts extended to the development and supply of Jaipur Foot and caliper components, with his children actively assisting in these endeavors. He also pursued a diploma to further his expertise.
His son, Om Prakash Sharma, trained from 1994 to 1996 under Dr. P. K. Sethi at the Santokba Durlabhji Hospital, Jaipur, specializing in Prosthetics and Orthotics, including Jaipur Foot Limb Technology. Since 1996, Om Prakash Sharma has been involved in manufacturing and exporting Jaipur Foot Limb and orthotic components across India and internationally. Leveraging extensive experience, he developed an orthotic insole.
The family's contributions have made significant advancements in the field of prosthetics and orthotics, continually innovating and expanding their reach to help those in need.
